or... "What a Difference a Patch Can Make"
True Combat: Elite is a current-day Terrorist vs. Counter-Terrorist
shooter. Class-based, with an emphasis on staying alive and completing
mission objectives (currently only bomb-defuse) over straight fragging.
The game does, however, sport a "bodycount" mode which is simple
deathmatch with a timelimit. |

I took interest in World of Warcraft not because I'm a big fan of
Warcraft, or Blizzard, or because I like RPGs (although at least some
of the previous are true). Instead, I only opened up to the game once I
found out that one has the ability to run his own "WoW" (as the acronym
goes) "emulated" server. In other words, I wouldn't have to pay
per-month fees to be in on the game.
I had the opportunity to set up this server software, and it's not very
user-friendly. In fact, the whole "scene" for WoW servers is very much
in its first stages, and the server software that exists doesn't really
work well. THe most popular server package in existence costs $100 per
copy, with updates for six months. This is not an appealing prospect.
If I could get the server to run well, and play well, I'd consider
buying the game, just to run my own server. But as it stands, the costs
outweigh the perceived enjoyment I *might* get, especially given the
antisocial person that I normally am when it comes to structured
socializing. |

Got my new Airsoft toy a couple of weeks ago, and had a LAN party just
this past weekend. LAN parties had been getting increasingly sketchy
lately since there are splitting factions on different games to play.
Specifically, people who want to play faster-paced games, and ones who
want slower, more strategic games. There is a falling out among people
who want to play a game that's not dominated by people who essentially
base their skill on reflexes instead of strategy. Any deathmatch game
will do that to you. Well, that was the case with "Bodycount" mode for
True Combat: Elite. A popular game for our crowd, but unpopular with
people who were experiencing the game's bugs and getting essentially
shut out of play by being constant cannon fodder for the opposing team. |

Using the liquidated vacation pay from my last job, I purchased for myself a SIG 552 "Seals" Airsoft Rifle from Red Wolf Airsoft.
Red Wolf kept up to their reputation for being one of the best, if not
the best in the industry for customer service. I received my new toy
roughly three days after ordering online. I was impressed.

So, I decided to roll-up several site ideas into one. The Lone Gamer
originally was conceived as a one-stop shop for single-player gaming.
But I had so many other gaming-related ideas that it really made sence
to focus it all into a single website.
The site is divided into three main sections. Each section would
probably qualify for its own site, if there were enough content. The
News & Reviews section is dedicated entirely to helping gamers get
the most out of the Single-Player or LAN experience. The Lone Gamer's
Blog section is a blog related entirely to gaming on and offline,
airsoft, politics related to gaming/airsoft/paintball, etc. The final
section is dedicated to news & information on Airsoft. Some of it
is general information, some of it will be more localized. |
